Don Moen - Worship Leading Workshop ------------------------------------ "Worship is more than music". It is: 1. Music and singing 2. Testimony 3. Prayer 4. Scriptures 5. Weeklong experience 6. Exhortation "God's pattern for Worship": 1. God is enthroned on the praises of his people. 2. Worship is more than a monologue. It is a dialoge. 3. People don't need a production as a replacement for God's presence. "Who is your audience?" 1. It is young? Is it old? 2. Is it a special moment (like a Valentine's Day) 3. Pick your music according to the audience. 4. Don't act as a stereotypical worship leading person. Be adaptable. "What are you expectations?" 1. Don't necessarily expect a big crowd. 2. Don't expect to be applauded. 3. Expect God to manifest himself in deliverance, blessing, healing, comfort. "What are your pastors' expectations?" 1. You are there to serve. Follow your pastor's expectations. "How much time do I have?" 1. Finish earlier than the time that is allocated for you. Don't loose the trust of your pastor or the leaders. Submit to them. It is not your prerrogative to take control of the situation, even if you feel God leading in that direction. "Planning the songlist" 1. What tone does your first song sets? Doesnt need to be fast or slow. Don Moen prefers more slower and invitational songs to start. "Picking the right song in the right key" 1. Pick a good song. There are so many. 2. Keep the melody in between C3 and C4. Your intention is to encourage the congregation to sing. "Be yourself": 1. Don't try to be Don Moen or Darlene Zshech or Michael W. Smith. 2. Don't try to replicate things you have seen around just for the sake of imitating. 3. Just is going to use you just the way you are. "Essential Worship Transitions". Creating an atmosphere of meditation and contemplation: 1. Busyness can get in the way. Just a few chords. The least you do, the better. 2. Learn the transitions in every key: 2.1. Sequence of I-IV-I. Power chords. 2.2. Sequence of I-IV-I. Same sus2 open chords all the time. 2.3. Sequence of I-ii-I6-IV-V-I. Same sus2 open chords all the time. 2.4. Sequence of I-vi-IV-V-I. Same sus2 open chords all the time. 2.5. Sequence of VIb-VIIb-I. Majestic feeling. "How to finish a Time of Worship?" 1. No quick starts. No quick stops. 2. Rehearse your song list with your band including the transitions. Recognize powerful moments of worship during the rehearsal. "Don't finish in the flesh what God began in the Spirit": 1. Don't be tempted to try to duplicate a powerful moment of Worship, just by doing the same thing you did before. 2. Even if you don't perceive much happening, remember that God is always working in ways you cannot see. 3. Don't push the people. Don't manipulate and work-up an audience. 4. Be transparent and vulnerable, because God is always looking at your heart. 5. Amos 5:21-24.
